UFC 94 thoughts

]]> The following are my thoughts and opinions, like it or not….

I dunno, I kinda went thru the whole thing not knowing what UFC 94 was titled.  Was there even a title?  Anyway, as with my other UFC thoughts I’ll avoid fight analysis etc like I’m sure is freely found online.

My sad observance is that there is a trend for less and less submissions at the UFC.  Why is TapOut still supporting the UFC?  I’m not a big UFC fan and I don’t follow it much, but I’ll watch if there are some fights I’m interested in (or if a friend is hosting at their place), so maybe I’m wrong.  But there weren’t any submissions at the last few UFCs I’ve seen.  The UFC is looking more like bad kickboxing than great MMA.

And BJ Penn, oh…. was he a disappointment.  He’s letting his talent go to waste.  I heard he went on a vacation from his training camp…what!?!?  While there are sure to be other issues (weight class, etc), it looks more like under-preparation and over confidence.  Like the proverb says, “Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.”  I hope he can get and keep his act together since he was one of my favorite fighters.

    ]]>     I’m a few days late in posting this, but yeah, I saw UFC 92 at a friend’s place.  This isn’t a “me too” post, I’m not going to do a fight by fight analysis or whatever like I’m sure tons of other blogs and people have.  Just my thoughts in one sentence:

    Omoplatas in UFC 91

    ]]>     Just watched UFC 91. I’m not going to critique the fights and give my opinions, etc… There are a lot of other blogs and websites that do that.

    What I will say though is that I was happy with some of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that was shown – in particularly the omoplatas. These techniques had me on the edge of my seat since I’ve been working on omoplatas on the mat a bit.

    The omoplata that Hazelet did…damn!! That was one great technique!

    The one that Dos Anjos was doing to Jeremy Stephens on the first round, that looked painful!! I didn’t get to see the rest of the Anjos – Stephens fight since the video streaming slowed down and stopped.

    Now, an omoplata instructional from John Will:

    I couldn’t find any MMA videos with omoplatas on them, maybe someone can make an MMA omoplata highlight video!
